SCAR CAMOUFLAGE

What is scar camouflage?

Scar camouflage is a technique that uses specially formulated inks to match your skin tone to help conceal certain areas that might trouble you. It works best when the area to be treated is paler than your natural skin tone.

How long after the injury or surgery should I wait before getting a scar camouflage tattoo?

It's generally recommended to wait until the scar is fully healed and has stabilized, typically around 9 to 12 months after the injury or surgery.

Is scar camouflage tattooing safe?

When performed by a skilled and experienced tattoo artist using proper hygiene practices, scar camouflage tattooing is generally safe. Consult with a reputable professional.

What's the aftercare for scar camouflage tattoos?

Aftercare instructions might include keeping the tattooed area clean, avoiding direct sunlight, and following any recommendations provided by the tattoo artist.

Does scar camouflage hurt?

Most people say that it stings or tickles. The pain is usually around a 3-4 on the pain scale.

Can any scar be camouflaged?

Most scars can benefit from scar camouflage tattoos, but the effectiveness depends on factors such as scar texture, color, and individual skin response. Some scars, such as keloids, may require a test spot procedure first.

Does scar camouflage have any side effects?

Known reactions following the procedure are heat, inflammation and redness as the treated zone. These all should subside within a couple of days.

As we are opening the skin, there is always a risk of infection as well as an allergic reaction to the ink. However, the chances of this occurring are very low. Single-use disposable sterile needles and disposable pigment cups and strict aseptic protocols are followed. If proper hygiene and aftercare are followed, risks will be kept to a minimum and safe healing will be ensured.

Darker skin types (Fitzpatrick 4-6) have a tendency to develop hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin). This is usually temporary and subsides within up to 12 weeks. Everybody is different and healing time varies between each person.

How does camouflage react in the sun?

When your skin tans, your camouflaged area does not, since stretchmarks and scars don’t tan. So the contrast will actually be less than if you did not get your camouflage.

When is the best time to do scar camouflage?

Since results may take up to 90 days to show, fall and winter are usually the best seasons to get this procedure done, since we usually cover up more skin during colder weather.

How do I choose a qualified tattoo artist for scar camouflage?

Research and choose a tattoo artist with experience in scar camouflage and medical tattooing. Ask for before-and-after photos and client testimonials.

Remember that scar camouflage tattooing is a specialized procedure, and individual experiences can vary. It's important to consult with a skilled and experienced tattoo artist who can assess your specific scar and provide personalized advice and recommendations.

Will the tattoo completely erase my scar?

Scar camouflage tattoos aim to make scars less noticeable, but they might not completely erase them. The goal is to blend the scar into the surrounding skin for a more natural appearance.

Are scar camouflage tattoos suitable for all skin types and colors?

Tattoo artists experienced in scar camouflage can work with a variety of skin types and colors, but some challenges might arise with very light or very dark skin tones.

Will the tattooed area look different from the surrounding skin under certain conditions?

The tattooed area might look slightly different under certain lighting or conditions, but the goal is to achieve a natural blend that's not easily noticeable.

Can scar tissue be tattooed successfully?

Scar tissue can be more challenging to tattoo compared to regular skin due to its texture and lack of consistent pigmentation uptake. Skilled tattoo artists might be able to work with scar tissue effectively.

How many sessions are required for a scar camouflage tattoo?

The number of sessions required can vary based on factors like scar type, color, and individual healing response. Multiple sessions might be needed to achieve the desired result.

How long do scar camouflage tattoos last?

The longevity of scar camouflage tattoos varies. Over time, the pigments might fade, and touch-up sessions could be needed to maintain the desired result. This can generally take place within 2-5 years.
